Introduction

Hello πŸ‘‹, My name is Jordy de Koning, a 26 years old software developer and I'm currently learning Solidity. I recently moved from the Netherlands to Dubai to start as a junior blockchain developer and thought it would be a good experience to share this with you. On this blog I'll write about the things I learn, mostly I'll dig into Solidity and Smart Contract development, but you'll also read about other experiences. So if you are interested in this topic or want to know more about me, this blog might be interesting for you.

It's already been four weeks since this journey started, but before we dive into Solidity and Smart Contracts I want to share with you how I got into this position.

In December 2020 I heard about blockchain development for the first time (yeah pretty late, but also still pretty early) and what you can do with blockchain. I did some front-end work on a Decentralized Application (DApp) that launched in March (we are still working on it to improve the platform). I can't share anything yet, but maybe in a couple of months I'll cover this topic. Throughout the development of this DApp I started to realize that blockchain is an amazing technology and I really enjoyed working with the team. I didn't write any smart contracts, but learned what you can do with it. I enjoyed it that much that I wanted to work with it everyday, and because the platform does not make any money yet, I started looking for a blockchain developer position and got a job in Dubai. Now I hear you thinking, why Dubai? You can get a job in The Netherlands as well. That might be true, but because of the pandemic Dubai became really interesting. With the nice weather, open restaurants and bars, there are plenty of things to do besides your job and how awesome is this opportunity?! After all it will be a good experience as well.

That's about it for now. A quick introduction about me and how I got into this position. The journey has begun.
